JUST-GREEN AFRH2ICA is committed to promoting green hydrogen as a key solution for sustainable energy transition across Africa and Europe, and this summit offered an ideal opportunity to discuss and collaborate on this mission. Key representatives from our project, including Dr. Stefano Barberis and Mr. Siggi Huegemann, shared their insights during the workshop.
Dr. Stefano Barberis, from the University of Genoa, presented on the “Techno-economics of green hydrogen production: Main indicators to evaluate the economic viability of a project”. This session provided a comprehensive overview of how to calculate the cost of green hydrogen, focusing on the practical and economic aspects that determine the viability of hydrogen projects.
Mr. Siggi Huegemann, Secretary General of the African Hydrogen Partnership, discussed the “Commercialization of green hydrogen – Why Africa, why now?”. His presentation highlighted why Africa is primed to play a significant role in the green hydrogen economy, emphasizing the opportunities available today for the continent.
The summit also featureed other thought leaders and experts in the hydrogen sector, offering keynote addresses, interactive workshops, and insightful discussions. Key topics included large-scale green hydrogen technologies, potentials, opportunities, and challenges presented by Prof. Bamidele Adebisi; production and storage of green hydrogen by Dr. Adekunle Olusile; the potential of natural hydrogen in Nigeria by Dr. Martins Ilevbare; promoting a just transition to green hydrogen by Dr. Ruth Irwin; and applications of green hydrogen and funding opportunities by Dr. Solomon Agbo.
