Power-to-X World Summit Training Event

JUST-GREEN AFRH2ICA participated in a crucial training event for the development of green hydrogen in Africa and Europe, held on October 9th. This meeting was an important opportunity to share knowledge and strategies to promote the green hydrogen transition and stimulate sustainable economic development, with the active participation of partners such as the University of Genoa, Impact Hydrogen and IRESEN.

The event was part of the World Power-to-X Summit™, an unmissable event that heralds a revolutionary era of clean energy, showcasing green hydrogen and clean fuels through the Power-to-X concept. Organized by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energies (MASEN) and the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) in collaboration with the Moroccan Green H2 Cluster and the Mohammed 6 Polytechnic University (UM6P), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of the Kingdom of Morocco, the World Power-to-X Summit™ stands as a major initiative in the realm of sustainable energy.

This year, the summit took pride in highlighting the “MOROCCAN OFFER”, an ambitious initiative positioning Morocco as a key player in the transition towards a sustainable economy. Green hydrogen lies at the core of this offer, with the World Power-to-X Summit playing an essential role in its realization.

The event was opened by Stefano Barberis from University of Genoa, coordinator of the JUST-GREEN AFRH2ICA project, who presented the project and welcomed the participants. Barberis then spoke in Session 1, illustrating the state of the art of green hydrogen production technologies, and in Session 3, discussing the possibilities of exporting hydrogen, carriers, or green hydrogen-based products.

Massimo Rivarolo (University of Genoa) also contributed to the training by addressing the topic of hydrogen storage and transport, and the opportunities offered by hydrogen carriers and synthetic fuels. Rivarolo returned in Session 2 to analyze the opportunities of e-fuels in the maritime sector.

Meryeme Azaroual from IRESEN contributed by illustrating the techno-economic analysis of a green hydrogen production plant in Morocco, highlighting the potential of the country as a hydrogen hub in Africa, thanks to its strategic position and energy connections with Europe.

Finally, Sharon Becker from impact Hydrogen has discussed about the Hydrogen Valley approach and the potential impact of this framework at socio-economic level.

This event highlighted Morocco’s key role as the “hydrogen gateway” for African exports to Europe, thanks to its green hydrogen offer and political agreements with the European Commission and various EU countries.
